Reviews on Fierce Wisdom
“This CD sets a new standard for vocal music. It is more than just the quality of the voice - it is the musical settings, as varied as the oceans and as vast as the sky.
The moods are all encompassing, as the songs burn, simmer, smolder, sing, swing and mine a tribal terrain that is at once deep and feminine and spiritual and just right. "Fierce Wisdom" is about chant, and yoga, and partnership, heart space and journeys of the soul. The overall flow captures some of the magic of Jennifer Berezan's long form chant recordings of late.
Inspired by the teachings of Indian saint Ananda
Mayi Ma, "Fierce
Wisdom," the
third release from Chloë Goodchild, provides a series of invocations and prayers
directed toward the Great Mother.
Chloë's two previous titles, "Sura" and "Devi," were nearly
all voice, and were deeply moving, covering sacred music, secular songs, mantras
and original pieces. With this release, the vocalist's unique singing style is
paired with world instruments, jazz elements and meditative atmospheres that
provide a soothing, mindful listening experience. The diverse repertoire includes
poetry from 13th century mystic Rumi (from Coleman Barks), improvisations by
Goodchild, sutras, remixes and a variety of moods (longing, sadness, joy).
Of special note are the comforting "Om Tara" and "Gaia - Hymn to the Earth." Her superb ensemble of world musicians interweaves violin, saxophone, cello, piano, bass clarinet, guitars, five string banjo, and percussion galore. David Lord provides keyboards and orchestral arrangements, and serves a co-producer. Chloë joins heaven and earth, opens the heart, grounds the spirit and transcends space and time.
Her chants to Tara, Kali, Gaia et al are sung as homage to humankind, inviting the listener to live with respect, honor, compassion and highest intent, and the music reflects this at every inspired turn. The CD plays as very long, in part because of the many excursions found within the journey itself, moving from sacred solo passages to full-on world music celebrations -- reminiscent of the best of the Paul Winter Consort over a decade ago.
You won't want to miss a second of "Fierce Wisdom," so set aside the time and space to experience the intensity and spiritual wake up call in store for all those who take the trip.”
Reviews on Your Naked Voice
"For more than two decades, Goodchild has helped thousands of people to access their wisdom and express their truth through the power of their sound. With Your Naked Voice, she presents a unique series of vocal exercises arising from Sanskrit syllables and mantras that allow listeners to safely explore the full range of their feelings ("wisdom voices"). From this foundation, Goodchild gently guides listeners to rediscover their natural, liberated voice, for a life full of awareness."
"Work with her through interactive exercises, designed step by step to develop deep listening; sound out primal chakra vibrations; chant the Heart Sutra; learn the Saptaka, or seven sounds of love.
Find your own vocal expression, free of self-consciousness, fear
and judgement. Just listen, join in, or make this a part of your
personal practice. There’s growth, self-confidence and personal
alchemy amongst the possibilities to be experienced here.
There’ll be some jaws drop at your next Kirtan group!"

Reviews on Awakening Through Sound
"As a teacher, singer, and sound healer, Goodchild demonstrates a process of Awakening through Sound on this Sounds True Audio Learning Course of five CDs (five and one-half hours) and one 40-minute DVD, which features movements and sacred gestures to accompany the vocal exercises.
All of us are interested in discovering our true self that is animated by passion, love, and power. In Session 1 Goodchild explores "Your Personality Voice and The Witness." The point is not to learn how to sing properly but to connect with our soul sound and express it in creative ways. Goodchild exposes some of the sad and silly stories we tell ourselves about our voices (such as we can't read music, we sing off-key, we are embarrassed to raise our voice, etc.) She demonstrates some vocal exercises which set out to bring us face-to-face with our naked voice, our reactive mind, and the wonder of the "pathless way."
In Session 2 Goodchild presents sacred chant and mantra as devotional songs which touch the heart and provide vibrational medicine. Her own singing here is both healing and inspirational. Session 3 covers "Your Wisdom Voice — The Seven Sounds of Love" which she calls musical chakras. Her choral anthem "How I Love You" is a perfect jewel that shines brightly and demonstrates the emotional vibrancy of the Naked Voice.
Session 4, "Your Healing Voice Through the Musical Modes," correlates the moods of your soul and the reality of the world, covering the longing to belong, shadow and light, dark luminosity, compassion, sublime joy, and more. Session 5 concludes this rich journey of self-observation and expression with some final thoughts about sound consciousness and everyday life.
Goodchild leads us to a mystical awareness of the oneness and the healing power of the heart in the face of conflict. A special treat on this Audio Learning Course is the inclusion of Rumi poems translated by Coleman Barks. That's why it is fitting that Goodchild concludes with a melodic lyrical expression of "The Singing Field":
"Out beyond ideas of right and wrong doing
there is a field
a singing field
I'll meet you there"
