Devi – Divine Feminine or Goddess – brings together many of my favourite devotional chants spanning the Hindu, Christian, Buddhist and Sufi traditions. Such chanting is vibrational medicine, a simple yet profound means of awakening the singing heart while side-stepping the everyday mind.
I have endeavoured to bring a fresh contemporary interpretation to each chant – especially 'Kyrie' and 'Ave Maria' – by improvising around the central melodic themes. These improvisations are spontaneous invocations of the heart as inspired by the original music.

SURA is sanskrit for a meditative vibration or musical note, and like Chloë's last CD DEVI, this album employs a devotional vibration to unveil the beauty of the human soul. Coleman Bark's translations of Rumi have make Rumi a best-selling poet in the USA today. Coleman and Chloë Goodchild met in November 1997 and began recording the spoken and sung versions of Rumi's poetry almost immediately. They have given performances with world musicians in Canada, London and Ireland.

The ecstatic love poems by the thirteenth century mystic, Jelalludin Rumi, from Konya Turkey, were meant to be read with music. Music was part of the practice of the Sufi Dervish learning community that these poems spring from. In Persian, the poems can be sung as well as read. Music is a metaphor for that which connects us to the Divine Music. It is a remembering that there is no reality but God. There is only God. This poetry came out of the great friendship between Rumi and his master Shams of Tabriz. Their friendship became a way. These poems are an expression of that way.
They were written 700 years ago but the mystical message hidden within holds a powerful contemporary ring for seekers after truth today. There is a mystery called the glance the gift 'nazar'. They conjure a universal language which has touched a pulse in our world and responds to our personal and collective longing for union, Spirit, God, the Beloved.

This album brings together some of my most favourite sound, song and chant recordings, composed and remixed from some of my solo CDs: Inner Heat, Naked Voice, Devi, Sura, Fierce Wisdom, and Singing Field. My profound gratitude to David Lord, whose orchestral arrangements and exquisite sound production have graced most of my solo album repertoire for the last fifteen years.
My Blackfeet medicine friends from Montana USA, tell me that “to be a true sound healer you have to have at least a hundred and twenty healing songs in your bag”. This selection of my love songs chants and anthems are a humble offering to our children and our world leaders, for the evolution of sound healing and the revelation of true or sound values at every level of human life. As we each learn to reach into the depths of our own heart song to unearth and redeem our lost wisdom, we are simultaneously contributing to the unification of this Earth, Gaia. A new sound is calling to be created, and with it a resonance of life, and a language of listening that has the power to overcome material poverty, transforming the spiritual crisis we face, elevating the human spirit across the globe, and creating Singing Fields – all inclusive meeting places for deep listening and shared presence through sound, chant, poetry & love song. It is my destiny and my privilege to share this essential musical journey with all who choose to participate in this wondrous process, guided and supported by the mind-shattering power that calls us home to the source of all sound, silence.
